Heylo. Currently in Japan on a tourist visa looking for work. I realize this may be a fairly needless question that I might know the answer to already,
but I recently had an interview with G. Education and was later informed I had "passed" the interview and would be contacted at a "later date" on when my working visa would begin to be processed. While this initially sounded like good news, my recruiter/interviewer told me he had "no idea" when I would be contacted.

...Therefore, does this mean that I have been hired? Does this mean that I am guaranteed a visa/job? Or, essentially, is this a sugar-coated pre-emptive measure taken against potential employees? Ugh... anyone had any experience with this?

Obviously I know not to depend on this and thus my job search continues...

This is the company that bought Nova, right? So it's a chain eikaiwa job? In that case, I would assume that they've put you into a pool of people that they'll pull from when jobs open up in their schools. Have they asked for your degree and passport and such to start the visa process? If not, definitely keep applying for jobs. If so, get on their asses about a timeframe, letting them know that you're on the executioner's block of an expiring tourist visa. Just know that if two companies apply for a visa for you at the same time, they might both get rejected.

Upon apply to the position, before the interview, I was asked to supply a copy of my degree, passport, and visa status via email. However I was told I would be contacted later by in regards to giving them my documents to apply for the visa.

Therefore in rough summary I was told.
"Hey we wanna give you a job and a visa dude!"
"Really?! When?"
"Actually hold on, we'll get back to you on it."
"Oh, ok, but...when? Soon? Am I guaranteed a job?"
"Oh just wait a while."
"..."

It appears that that's what my Japan experience has been composed of. Apply, wait, and cross your fingers...

Yeah, I just did this too. They hold a pool of prospective employees. They told me 'the Japanese' then choose who they want when a job comes up. Not sure why they would consider someone without a visa, when there must be a large pool of teachers with visas out there.

Yuck, there's some bad typos in my post there. Embarrassing, seeing as I want to be an English teacher. Sorry, it was written with a bit of fury.

Well, I was told I would be contacted in regards to getting a visa "sometime soon," as I said. While my documents were requested, I did not present them with official hard copies, only pdfs. Still, I am unsure as to why they were requested... hmm...

After receiving my visa, I am then to be offered a position when one becomes available.

osakades, were you given a position with them? Or are you also still waiting?

If a position is not available to me at the time after my visa is processed, I will be assigned to a different branch of the company.

Have you signed a contract stating the date you will officially become their employee and how much you will be getting paid during your period of employment?
