Sadly, the era of the less-than-$1000 round trip ticket from SE Asia to N. America may be gone for good, but there are some things to try...
1. Try visiting an actual travel agent in Vietnam. This old-fashioned way of buying a ticket can hide some excellent deals. Be frank with them and tell them how much you have to spend. Give them as big a window as you can for departure dates.
2. Mix it up. You can use a budget carrier, such as Air Asia, Tiger Airways, Jetstar, etc, to get to major cities such as Bangkok, Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong, or even Seoul. Then, book the major trans-pacific portion of your flight from these major cities. You can save a couple hundred dollars doing this.
3. Sorry, the name escapes me at the moment, but one of the plane ticket websites has an option where you can "name your price" and they will send you an email as soon as they can put together and itinerary near your price. |
