Sounds like a typical Taiwanese school. Unfortunatly it really is a bad idea to give prior notice before quitting.
I don't think there is much that can be done so long as they paid you all the monies owed and did not keep any kind of deposit.
Did they provide you with health insurance and a tax return form stating all your tax deductions correctly?
Please eloborate on this loop hole you mentioned!
A.

DPC, this is starting to become de riguer at the chainschools. They are like roach motels..."You check in, but you never check out." If a teacher has the audacity and the nerve to leave their fine and lucky establishment , then they are obviously very stupid and they can in no right conscious, recommend or help that teacher continue to live in this land. In fact, is it not their patriotic duty to do all they can to discourage this fat, smelly westerner from wanting to be here at all?

My advice.....Get a friend and an alibi.

Joking, of course...I am 49.

The labor laws of the republic of China clearly state that the school has to give you at least 10 days notice. If they did not do that, file a written complaint with the Council of Labor Affairs via the local post office certified fax. Get a receipt and be sure to include any and all proof such as copies of time cards, contract or work agreement, schedules ....
Follow that up with a phone call or visit to their office.
