On recent visits I was somewhat puzzled at the startling growth in the numbers of fat tattooed people (of all genders) with agressive dogs. They were not around when I left the UK in 1970.

Where did they come from ? Are they extra-terrestrial in origin ?

Find out what was cooking a few decades ago in the olde gene poole soup potte.... in your part of the world, evidently fatties with a propensity for tattoos and toothy canines....



I'm not being condescending.....in 'my' part of the world, quite likely even worse developments, as we had the agressive fatties already in full manifest when I left a couple of decades ago!! Imagine what their kids...and grandkids (they tend to reproduce at fairly young ages) look like!

When I lived in London, and later on even in 'genteel' Cambridge I soon learned to walk along the street and not 'catch' anyone's eye. I also learned not to walk around in a daydream but to be alert to who was nearby. Otherwise you'd risk walking into a crowd of people you'd soon wish you hadn't. I got very good at spotting 'them' a mile off - they didn't all have dogs or tattoos either. I'd cross the road in advance.
In fact, everywhere I visited in the UK was like this. But this is not new; those I know who lived in London in the 80s said it was the same back then. Some of them had made the mistake of LOOKING directly at people.

"Who are you looking at ?" used to be a standard opening line for a punch up in the coarser bars of Scotland.

Now that I lead a righteous life I am seldom in such places, but often feel threatened in other locales - shopping etc !

According to research presented this week at the British Psychological Society conference in Brighton, tattoos are a mark of low self-esteem!

People usually get tattooed for 4 main reasons : rebellion, aesthetic appearance, personal or emotional significance or to show group affiliation. However, in all of these groups of reasons, the underlying factor is low self-esteem. Maybe somebody should tell David Beckham, Angelina Jolie...?

The aggressive dogs thing has become very popular amongst the ruffians, mainly as the UK now has such stringent laws about carrying weapons that the easiest way round this is to purchase an attack dog.

Of course, because these dogs are 'technically' banned (but basically not enforced) massive numbers of blackmarket 'dog trainers' and 'dog breeders' sprung up in the council estates, and they became as fashionable as Elizabeth Duke, Burberry and Ugg boots.

And yes, theres been plenty of reports of toddlers and babies getting mauled by their parents dogs.

Do you mean the parents are dogs or the parents have dogs?
Either way I'd go along with it!
I remember living (unfortunately) next door to a charming family. Sometimes I'd hear the mother bellowing at her equally delightful teenage son in their back yard: "Get in here you f*$%#@g little s%#t!!!"
At times I'd have to leave the house while the whole family were out the front polishing up their car. They'd all stop and openly gawk at me. I, however, studiously following my policy of not meeting eyes would look straight ahead and cross over the road as soon as I could.

When scot47 was a youth, tattoos were only for mariners and criminals. And the other ranks in the Army (but not the RAF).
