Hi
Has anyone heard of or had experience with the English first academic partnership in Shanghai?
Done a forum search and a google search didn't turn up much either. I gather EF schools have earned a pretty terrible reputation among teachers in China but from what I understand of this program EF employs you and sends you to teach at one of various universities around Shanghai.
Apart from the weekly meetings to discuss issues and plan lessons and projects mentioned in the job ad it would seem that the applicant would be working in the university and presumably under their supervision and management for most of the time.
I will of course be asking EF for more details but just wondered if anyone had any initial input or advice because there is not much on the web, bar EF's own contributions, and not sure how far they should be trusted given the posts I have read about their language schools.
Many thanks |

So, you're saying that although EF may not be a trustworthy employer, you'd trust them to farm you out to other places?

Good point, well made and thanks for the reality check!
It just sounded like a good option, perhaps too good....
Oh well, back to the drawing board. |

Hi,
Academic Partnerships run a fairly decent program in Shanghai. The pay is not great but the system works much better that just working directly for a university (which is really the lowest form of employment in TEFL in China).
At least with AP you get the backing of a company that has resources and highly qualified and experienced directors. The universities have chosen EF to ensure quality - rather than picking any old has been to teach in their schools. The universities are reputable institutions. It is hardly farming you out. Just a better support network with decent professional and academic development. They even a bonus system based on teachers completing their own academic research. Actually, a lot of the teachers I ahvemet from AP are currently doing or have completed their DELTAs or Trinity Dips- which are hardly low end qualifications.
Just try to give a different perspective. EF will piss you off- but then which school, uni, or company won't in the TEFL world!!! |

Keep in mind when farmed out, you often need to travel via public transportation and it is unpaid and sometimes lengthy travel every day. You may teach for 4 hours and travel for 3 . |
