The following information is hearsay. I have no way of proving whether or not it is true. However, I would want to know about this if I were considering a job with PMU.

I have heard that PMU is changing its system from direct hire to using a recruiter. I know that in the past they have used a recruiter to hire a few employees, but my source tells me now that all employment with go through this recruitment agency. To make matters even more confusing, apparently the admin is creating a recruitment agency and then outsourcing the recruitment to itself. This can only mean that it is a new way of skimming off the top of teachers' salaries. If the new "recruiters" can get you to work for less money (say 10,000 SAR) then the rest of the allotted salary for a new teacher (say 2,000 SAR) goes into the "recruiter's" pocket.

Again, this is hearsay, and from only one person. It's up to you to check it out.

Hold firm when you negotiate, if you decide to negotiate at all. There is an exodus right now, so find out why in order to make sure it is right for you. And above all, do not believe that it is a "Westerrn-run" university in which Western administrators make decisions concerning your welfare. Every halala that can be pinched will be pinched, and not for your benefit.

Contractor or recruiter ? A contractot hires you and farms you out. Typically he will collect the same as you get. Out of 14,000, he gets 7000 and you get 7000. Recruiters are not common in Saudi. That is a Chinese or Korean phenomenon. They hire you, charge the employer a one-off fee and pass you on to him.

And yet, when you are sitting in the interview, they will tell you to your face that this is one of the advantages of working for PMU. I've been told that in an interview, ans so have friends who have interveiwed. Yet, I understand that they terminated the connection with the American consortium alsmost as soon as they had started. Now they have Western admin, but they are only window dressing just like all the other places.

Don't know about the contractor/recruiter thing. My guess is that it sounds more like a contractor, but it is only a guess.

NO universities in KSA are 'Western run'. Many of them have 'Western' administrators in middle or even upper management positions, but at the end of the day it is always the Saudis who call the shots.

BTW in my experience "Western" managers are no more likely to treat you well than Saudi managers.

Run, don't walk, from PMU. It is the devil's workshop. Read all of the previous discussions on the topic. Then find a coal mine in Chile to work in. The conditions should be better, and they seem to care if you come out alive.
