Please don't waste your money on this book. It is overpriced and it isn't detailed at all. It basically talks about moving to Mexico City and doing private classes and the way you find students is through advertising in the local newspaper. Well, no duh!!! I didn't need to spend a ton of money on a book that didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know. Seriously, if I were you, I would purchase "The People's Guide to Mexico." This is a must read!!! You could also get a really good travel book (or two), as well as the Culture Shock Mexico book (Actually when I skimmed through it I just thought is was so-so because it was kind of boring, but it does give some insight) and if you want more detailed info on the Mexican culture you should check out "There's a Word for it in Mexico. The Complete Guide to Mexican Thought and Culture." You can view a good portion of this book at Amazon.com. Also, you should search all of Dave's ESL site, especially the Job Information Journal. Some other sites that are good are www.mexconnect.com (Has a wealth of info on traveling in Mexico, a specific article on teaching in Mexico, and a great forum) and www.lonelyplanet.com. The best way to get a job in Mexico is to just go there and look. Talk to everybody you meet there and tell them you're looking for job to teach English and look through the yellow pages and drop your resume off at all the language schools. Don't forget to learn at least some basic Spanish before you go. So, really, DO NOT waste your money on the Teach English in Mexico Employment Guide. If you do, you may be disappointed. I was. |

I bought this book and it really helped me . I got a great job and it also prepared me before I left for the land of pyramids and sunshine - the CD Video that came with it showed teachers working in classrooms in Mexico. I felt I knew what I was about to walk into. The last part of the video really gave good advise that I used to land my job. It was well put together and I even got a free 25 page newsletter with the Guide that had even more jobs listed! Hats off!!

I briefly thought about buying this book, as the website claims to be "Voted a 'Top-Rated Site' by visitors to Dave's ESL Caf." However, I could find absolutely no such recommendation on this site. Take from that what you will. |

I bought the book and was disappointed, not only in the information, but the way it was put together. For the price, no way. Much better books on the market with way more information such as 'The Peoples Guide to Mexico".
Nearly all the information in that book can be read for free here on this website, and as for the video it was in my opinion, entertaining but not informative. The little bit of information at the end of the video (approx. 5 minutes of talking) would maybe help someone who has never been to Mexico before, but nothing earthshattering was told.
Definitely not worth the high price.

Anyone going to Mexico City or Guadalajara? This book could be helpful to you.........
I'm not looking to step on "internet works" toes , i'm just cleaning out my office and getting ready to head south. I don't want to throw it out, but would like to pass my copy on to someone who could use the information.
p.m. me

Unfortunately this book does not cover the reality of many things in Mexico and you can only learn through experience there. I don't think any book can teach you about living there. It can be wonderful for many, as it was for me and horrible for some. |
