I've seen numerous comments on online courses, however I am looking for comments on taking Ontesol's on-line 250 hour course and doing the practicum which would qualify me to be accredited by TESL Canada (Level 2 ) and ACTDEC. What is the acceptance of this on-line course in Canada? Besides doing the practicum, my plan is to volunteer to get more hours and then do private tutoring.
Thank you in advance for any advice/comments. |

In Canada this is acceptable for entry-level TESL certification (Level I being standard). I have to admit that employers do not seem to care between Level I and Level II (I have Level II myself, not from ONTESL) but the extra 150 hours of coursework in education & theory is very useful preparation for teaching classes (hint hint for the interviews).
You will still be looking at basic entry-level work, almost certainly part-time to start in Canada. Nearly all ESL jobs in Canada will go to someone with years of overseas experience or an MA in TESOL. |

Thank you for the reply, much appreciated. It's good to have a forum like this where one can find out answers in advance before making decisions. |

This is the certification that I have. TESL Canada does, indeed, recognize it as a Standard 2 course (if you also have a Canadian or Canada-evaluated bachelor's degree). The practicum, of course, is done on-site. The grammar portion of the course is diploma level (think DELTA). |
