My Canadian driver's license has expired unfortunately, and I plan on making a move there from Vietnam next year. Would it be possible for me to get a license in Malaysia if need be?

Thanks

Without a valid Canadian license, yes, you should get a Malaysian license. That means you will take a written (or computer) test and a driving test.

I have always kept my home-country license current and use that instead of getting a local or "international" license. When the cops have stopped me, they look at the license, see that it is valid, and leave me alone. They are mostly looking for people without licenses, or more importantly, without valid road tax receipts.

My home-country license has a motorcycle endorsement along with that for motorcar. In Malaysia, they have split categories for big bikes (over 500cc), intermediate bikes (150cc or so to 500cc), and little bikes (less than 150cc, or something close to that).
