What can I reasonably expect without an MA?

Hi, I'm a British teacher with a BA (English), TEFL, and 5 years' experience teaching overseas (Mexico, Spain). I'm at the stage now where I'd like to try a different part of the world, and hopefully a more lucrative one, and I'm thinking about the Middle East. I have taught Arabic speakers before in the UK, and am not afraid of the various cultural differences.

I just wonder what kind of jobs I can hope to get without an MA or DELTA, as a lot of posts on this board say that these are important. Would I be looking at the lesser jobs? Are there particular countries which are less concerned with an MA, or does it really depend on the job?

Thanks in advance

Not having an MA will keep you out of the jobs with the best conditions and pay. If money is your only object, I'd look at the Saudi board. They have the most jobs with the most pay for those with just a cert. If you are more concerned about lifestyle than money, Oman is an option. (Oman does have access to alcohol and there is more of a nightlife)

Do a bit of reading around on those boards...

From what I've heard, ADVETI in the UAE may accept teachers with a BA and a CELTA, but they might expect you to start working on your MA or do an extensive DELTA.

IN KSA many employers ask for an MA but the reality is that lots of people come here without an MA. Some do one by Distance Learning when here. Just do not expect to get an increase in salary after finishing it !

Being a Brit you'd be able to work with the British Council who I know are recruiting in a few places around the region at the moment. Whilst pay isn't as good as the Uni jobs it isn't so bad. There's also funding for professional development courses (you'd be expected to do the DELTA at some stage). You also get the usual flights, housing allowance, medical insurance and ok holidays as well as pension contribution.
Most centres are pretty well run with additional opportunities to train up to become IELTS/ Cambridge ESOL examiners.
Like any job there are negatives but you certainly don't get some of the bad stuff (being polite) that goes on in other places.
A 2 year contract in the ME plus a DELTA will give you more to put on your CV when you want to move round the region.

A nit at the police academy in Qatar thinks you need a DELTA without the BA. You might try there maybe they will condescend to a CELTA + BA but a Gulag pal didn't make it past the demo lesson. He said the sit and watch you like hawks but are obviously clued out.
