I have the work permit, however my business visa runs out soon. What do I have to do to extend the visa, as the permit is not in my passport, but is a seperate piece of paper.

Do I renew the Visa, or do I go for a residence visa, or what
Any suggestions?

I recommend you get yourself a temporary residence. I got mine earlier this year and runs for 2 years. I've sent you a pm with a contact that can help you sort it out. He's well known amongst expats in HCMC and very reliable.
