Hi everyone
I've just moved to Bangkok as an ESL teacher, thought I'd sign up to Dave's ESL and get to know a few people in the city. I'm living in On Nut and currently working for inlingua. Anyone else? also I've only been here for a few weeks so I'm keen to listen to any hints, tips or advice from expats. I'm from the UK and should be here for at least 6 months.
Oh, also I'm writing a blog of my experience, if anyone wants to check it out then have a look at my Teaching Thailand blog I'm basically documenting what happens to me.
thanks and good to meet you all

So far I've had really positive experience. The people are curious but friendly and helpful. Not many speak English very well so probably worth getting a phrase book before you come out.
I'm currently working for "inlingua" who are one of the biggest language schools in Bangkok. They are a very good company to work for, I have been welcomed well and they are trying to get me as much work as possible.
I've only been here for a month now but I've found Thailand a friendly and beautiful country. In Bangkok there is plenty to do no matter what your interest, I've barely scratched the service but there's plenty to explore. Sure, there are problems in the country - politics is a big issue at the moment but I've seen no civil unrest since I have been here. However, I've been told that this could change quickly depending on the government and the protesters. I'm not fully up-to-date about what the issues actually are but it's something worth noting if you are going to be coming here. I must stress though this shouldn't put you off as I have seen nothing of the sort, in fact I've not seen any sort of violence or crime at all.
I'm planning on staying here for at least six months and so far I'm loving it, I'd recommend coming here as there is a lot to see and do. Good luck with your plans |
