I've taught the same 4 housewives for FIVE AND A HALF YEARS week in and week out. It's been the best class that I've had in Japan. Four middle aged, middle class women. The only class that never felt like work. But new hours mean I have to let them go. Really spooky feeling letting them go too. Got to find a new teacher but I feel really protective towards them. I told them last week and they almost went into shock. To be honest I am feeling a bit strange myself. It really was 5 good friends meeting every week for coffee. We laughed every week, and not that fixed kind of grimace that we've all done when our students says something they think is funny but it isn't or it's only the 500th time that week that we've heard it.
Just wondering if anybody out there has done it longer than me. |

I've had the same class(14 students) for 25 hours a week for the past 6 months. That's alot of classroom time. Isn't it? Or does it just feel like a long time? |

Sid,
Nothing lasts forever and change is good. The ladies will be fine with a new teacher. Of course, if your employer was actually concerned about keeping the teachers and students happy, the class would stay the same. |

Mr. Sid
My 2 longest running students (no other teacher except while on holidays) are a 10 year old boy and a 54 year old woman. Both classes have been going for 5 years 8months and counting. 3 of my students now, I knew them before they were born: taught their older siblings while the mothers were "making shoes for childrens feet". |

I did five years in my last job in Saudi. The question which remains with me is whether it was five years of my life or five years off my life. |
