I've done a few searches on what to do if you break a contract early....but I am yet to find the answer I need.
If I were to leave a school (on agreeable terms ) earlier than stated in the contract, would I need a release letter from the school and a stamp from the PSB if I wish to work elsewhere in China (not in the same province)??
Or can I just leave the country (hand over my green and red books) and come back in on a tourist visa? |

I think the best idea is to go to HK and do the Chinese equivilant of Korea's Visa Run. Go there, get to the embassy and come back ready to start again. It's cheap as chips and HK is an amazing place any road! Enjoy! |

If everyone is happy with you leaving then there is an established procedure for changing schools.
The new school must make an application to employ you and once they receive it, they send it to your present school who will arrange for you to be signed off within your current system (PSB and Education system).
Then you can travel to the new school and they will take you through the legalities in the new system.
There have been many stories of teachers who leave schools, even by agreement, go to the new school and then have to travel right back to the original city to go through the transfer process.
Your green Residence permit is very specific to your address and your school and has no validity once you change either. The red Foreign expert certificate is also specific and theoretically must be handed in when you leave (in practice nobody cares about this one, but they do care about the green one) |

ditto to what Tony Lee said; just add this: Your RELEASE LETTER is proof that your school has no complaints against, and the PSB stamp confirms that they do not have a Wanted poster with your mug shot hanging on walls.
You need that release letter to get a new job legally. |

If you work in a different province, as of now, if you left the country and came back in, you probably would not need a letter of release. Still...
Get the letter of release ! It is what proves that you left in good standing. The green residence permit is history, you probably won't get one at your new college.
I would say in the new shape of things the letter of release is going to become your most important document. I can only speak for Henan, but I know they are currently implementing the rules that will make this piece of paper mcuh more important. |
