BKC gave me a reading list of books they recommend. I was going to try and get one from each category, but I do not think that is going to be reasonable. They say most of them are available in their library, but I DO need some to start learning my stuff. I speak English fluently, but naturally, not because I know anything about English. So... time to learn.

I am interested in recommendations, however, I did want to stick close to their reading list and suggested titles since I will be taking the class from them, and hopefully immediately following, teaching for them.

So far what I have selected...

-The Practice of English Language Teaching with DVD (4th Edition) (Longman Handbooks for Language Teachers)
by Jeremy Harmer (Paperback)

-Grammar Practice Activities Paperback with CD-ROM: A Practical Guide for Teachers (Cambridge Handbooks for Language Teachers)
by Penny Ur (Paperback)

-Vocabulary (Resource Books for Teachers)
by John Morgan (Paperback)

-Grammar for English Language Teachers
by Martin Parrott (Paperback)

However, I am not sure I can rationalize purchasing all of these (unless people really recommend it). So was thinking if I stick to the top two for now I would be good to go, and if I felt like there were blanks to be filled in I could purchase the next two.

Comments, ideas?

The Harmer book is good.

Rather than buying all of those books, you may be able to find several of them through bit torrents.

Thanks.

I don't play that game anymore though Smile.

I disagree about the Harmer book. I think his other book 'How to Teach English' is worthwhile. If you don't know how to teach grammar (and I'm assuming you haven't done your initial teacher training course), then the Parrott book is a very good idea (get a second-hand copy and read it before you go abroad, as it weighs rather a lot).
