OK, so who can say that they are able to pay ALL monthly bills and save for the future with ONLY what you make teaching EFL. That teaching can be in a coligio, university, language schools (HH, Berlitz, Interlingua), or private students or even a combination of all of the above.
Supposedly if one has an engaging personality and focuses on
professional development, one should be OK. What about being a coordinator? Any of those here? If so, are you able to make it on your salary? Just wondering that's all. Very Happy

I teach company classes in DF.

I make about 11,500 pesos on average a month (I also teach one private class on the weekends with a rich dude who also buys me lunch.)

My rent is 4000
I usually save about 2000 pesos a month. Not a ton but I don't have kids or anything so it doesn't really matter. It allows me to pay of my student loans in Canada at least.

I work for two Institutes, and also coordinate, hire and generally manage teachers at several of the companies. I also have a couple of private students. I earn roughly $18,000 per month, all told. I don�t pay rent because we own our apartment, if we did have to pay rent, rent in my area for a 2 bedroom apartment is $3500 - $4000. We save roughly half of my salary per month, most of what my husband earns goes toward paying for the house we are building in a small town in Zacatecas, and taking care of his invalid brother, so we live on roughly $8000 a month, I would say, but could probably live on less, maybe $6000. I think for a single person you would need to look at earning $10,000 realistically, and not live in a trendy area, learn to speak Spanish, and shop at traditional markets instead of supermarkets, basically live like a middle class Mexican, and you�ll be OK. Most of the people I see here that can�t make it on what they earn, and I am not saying this is you, don�t learn even basic Spanish and pay the price for it in just about everything they buy. Not exactly a pay issue, but related and it determines how far your pay goes.

My husband gets a stipened from CONACYT which is roughly equal to my take home pay from a university. We have three small children, two dogs and a cat and we all live okay on that. My mortgage is taken from my pay, so that's not part of my take home pay. If we were renting, we'd pay around 2000 a month.

Heh... well there's only one concrete way of giving realistic expectations!

Also, it depends a lot on how much of a party person you are. I don't spend a ton of money because I don't get drunk a lot at bars or go to clubs. I have beers with friends on the weekends at someone's home and once in awhile go out to bars. If I partied as much as some expats I know I would need a much bigger salary.
