|
|
Background: Asian American (born in the US), 23 years old, Bachelors degrees in toxicology and biology from a UC, do NOT have TESOL/TEFL credentials
Experience: taught Kaplan DAT/OAT/PCAT courses for 1 year, taught chemistry/math/english for 6 months, lots of miscellaneous volunteering
Question: I would really LOVE to find a place to teach English for the duration of 6 to 9 months. I can NOT teach a full academic year (no way around this). Ideally, I would like to know if their are ANY countries (as in anything goes!) that would pay for round trip airfare + housing + food.
A second scenario would have me pay for air fare, but I would like housing + food expenses covered. At bare minimum, I would like to break even, but of course making a little $$$ on the side would be great
Any suggestions of what country, what company, etc? Thanks! |

You want someone to pay you a salary, rent, airfare, and even your food (!!!) expenses, despite the fact that you have no experience or certification, and you want to do this for less than a standard contract period.
Nope. Not even for experienced, certified people who are already in-country and fluent in L1. |

Indeed. Please let me know when this mythological Shangri-La has been found - and if they're hiring! |

Point well taken, TeresaLopez; he did say he just wanted to break even with perhaps the added perk of a little dough on the side. It's like I always say, I've got enough money to last me the rest of my life unless I have to buy anything. |

Volunteer teaching at www.omeida.org in Yanghshuo, China should meet some of your expectations. Most of the training centres there offer similar programs.
Board and food is free in return for an hour or so per day of English corner type activities. You will have to find your own flights of course. |

Of course, the other posters who are telling you it's impossible are talking strictly about the 6- and 9-month contracts. If only you could do a full academic year, you'd find that pretty much ALL jobs offer what you asked for, and more. That's why TEFL is so popular. Now if you'll excuse me, I've gotta go have dinner -- free, of course! (I hope it's not fillet mignon again.) |

I have heard of some programmes, but don't expect to make any money. It's usually an exchange of language lessons for room and board. See the links I sent you as well as http://www.geovisions.org/ |
