I do not know whether these will show up on a criminal check I'm currently having done, but during a span 18-20 years ago, I participated in civil disobedience during civil rights demonstrations. I was arrested a number of times. In most instances, the charges were dropped, but I twice had to pay fines. If any of this does show up on my criminal check, will it prevent me from getting a work permit in Vietnam? If it's a problem, is it something that can be worked around? Any thoughts and feedback on this would be greatly appreciated, as I'd hate to pick up and move to Vietnam if I have no chance of working there legally. (if it matters to the answer here, I'm a white guy from the USA) |

It depends on the nature of your convictions and this can be interpreted very liberally and with little consistency. If for example you were convicted of assaulting a police officer, i doubt this would be looked upon favourably. If you were convicted of being a disturbance, for one, i dont think this would still be on your record, and secondly, the VN authorities wouldnt worry too much.
Depends on the crime, and again, unless you have a criminal conviction, 18-20 generally see the slate wiped clean. |

Thanks for your response. I had to pay fines only twice, I'm assuming that's a conviction on a record. One ticket was for disorderly conduct, the other was called obstructing an officer (we blocked a building entrance). I had other arrests that did not result in convictions. I know it probably shouldn't matter after 18 years, but it may still show up on my record and I don't know how Vietnamese officials would look at arrests even that resulted from civil rights protests. |

In short- No it won't. Nothing that old and slight will show up on a state form nor an FBI scribble. They have better things to do. Save your brain matter for something else. |
