I am looking to connect with an ESL teacher in Arequipa. I am moving there in January and would like to hear some first hand experiences and tips from someone working there in that field.
If you or someone you know works as a teacher in Arequipa, I'd be grateful if you'd connect with me.
Thanks! |

Thanks for the tips. I have tried quite a few forums.
If anyone is willing to connect me with an ESL teacher in Arequipa, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

I don't know any. Turnover is high. Try the forums that I suggested. |

Hey I'm a teacher in Arequipa. This is probably my last month working here though. I'll be around in January, but there's a pretty good chance I'll be gone after. But feel free to contact me. I'd be happy to become friends with you and answer any questions you have! |

Thanks for answering!
My boyfriend and I are moving to Arequipa in early January. We are TESOL certified through Oxford and looking to get jobs upon arrival. Everyone has said that applying in person has a much higher success rate than online.
A few questions for you:
-Any places you'd recommend applying to as a top school to teach at?
-Any places we should avoid?
-What types of schools tend to pay more?
-What types of schools tend to have better administration?
-What details, aptitudes, etc. will give us a leg up and set us apart in the application process?
-Anything else you'd like to share with us about your experiences teaching?
Thanks again for responding. If you know of anyone else that might be willing to connect with us and give us their opinions and advice, we'd really appreciate it.
Cheers. |

I can answer some. With an Oxford TEFL, you're not really doing to get a leg up. BUT
Prescott is a good school. I've also heard good things about Extreme Superior English Alliance.
Ones to avoid, those with high turnover and look dodgy.
Schools that pay more are university and business institutes.
Better admin will be often found at schools that hire legal teachers, just saying.
Things that will set you apart are: legal working status, teaching experience, MA, proper TEFL cert. |

Here are answers to your questions:
-Well I worked at Extreme. It's not at all a bad place to work but I've certainly had my issues there...mostly in terms of dealing with the uber capitalistic, for-profit nature of the place. The only other reputable language schools I know of (meaning they pay on time, etc) are la Cultural and Brittany Group. That isn't to say there aren't others. And then you can also try the colegios and universities.
-Not that I'm aware of.
-la Cultural, universities, colegios
-I don't know. I'm too inexperienced to answer.
-ditto what naturegirl said
-Arequipa is a really nice place! I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. |
