Hello all,

I'm currently teaching ESL in Korea and considering applying for work in Dubai or Abu Dhabi next year. I have a UK secondary teaching qualification (PGCE) and a couple of years' High School teaching experience, plus 4 years ESL experience in Korea.

Please could some experienced posters advise me what kind of jobs and salary I would be likely to qualilfy for with that background, and if possible recommend any reputable organisations to apply for work with?

Many thanks!

Andy

You are probably qualified for the international schools that offer the British Curriculum. If you do a quick search you should be able to get an idea of salaries etc. there.

You don't qualify for the better tertiary EFL jobs with the quals you quote.

WARNING!!! ONLY FOLLOW THIS ADVICE IF YOU ARE NOT CONTENT IN KOREA OR IF YOU ARE HARD UP FOR MONEY!!!

apply for the international schools in dubai and look for the closest to "normal" to a uk school OR apply to teach away in abu dhabi, tolerate it as long as you can and save every dirham. don't get fooled into getting comfortable in the uae, things can change overnight and you will be stuck with material baggage. that's the real trap!!!

You should definitely apply to ADEC through teachaway.com.

I'm very happy with my job (in my second year) and I know plenty of others who are as well. Granted, a lot depends on what school you end up at as conditions on the ground vary greatly (even working hours, and sick leave policy) But it's definitely a solid option. From what I gather the pay is generally higher than in International schools, although you should expect unruly students.
