Hello everybody,

I am a newbie who has been reading many posts with great interest over the past few months. I am due to finish my CELTA next week with a predicted pass B and am looking for guidance as to what to do now as I want to head overseas in January if poss.

I am a 23yr old British graduate who is looking to use my CELTA to teach for the next 5years at least and would ideally love to go to Indonesia. I would like to teach young learners but would not be against teaching adults if I needed to. The most important thing for me is to find a school that can offer me support and guidance so as I can develop professionally ... and of course beautiful surroundings! I would like to have enough money to live comfortably, for accommodation to be provided and to be able to do a bit of travelling, but im not after big bucks.

Am I asking too much here?

I haven't been able to find many jobs that are in Indonesia and the ones I have found require min 2 years experience. I guess im looking in the wrong places, can anyone help???

hi
i would recommend applying to any branch of EF to start off with and move up from there as you get more experince. you've got a huge choice of locations within indonesia to choose from.

try googling EF INDONESIA SCHOOL BRANCHES

best

You could also google The British Institute, International House, Direct English and English Education Center.

lol......... try EF for beautiful surroundings, professional development, and enough money to live comfortably? seriously i know that is what their ads say, but it is so far from reality that i cant believe anyone here actually recommends them. they are a school of last resort and people without a degree or ctefl.

aku tonpa gives much better advice. try those. the market is tight right now and usually the end of they year is not a good time to look for jobs. most companies have already used up their training budgets and wait until after the beginning of the year. and new/returning students delay starting the next course until after the holidays.

unless u have strong reasons to come to indonesia, i would suggest going to another country rather than coming here and working for EF. with a CTEFL u can do much better

oh yeah, before i start getting posts by ef dos cheerleading for EF, yes there are a few good ones out there but the majority are terrible. if u want to work for a good EF the only group i would recommend is the surabaya group. others u have to sort thru individually, and i would stay away from all swara schools.

I would agree with aku_tonpa try them first. If not the EF Surabaya group as some of the other EF's have some questionable practices like not paying your tax plus other things.

Even though some schools ask for two years if they like the sound of you they will be willing to take you on without experience. If you want to teach Young Learners that will help a lot as a quite a few teachers in language schools seem to want to teach teenagers or adults only. You could always try to do some voluntary teaching while you are still in the UK.

If you have your heart set on Indonesia I say go for it. I absolutely loved my 5 years in Indonesia with all its ups and downs.

If you see recent job advertisements for Indonesia, you may see even for a language mill like EF, you do need a degree in English, or Education to work in Indonesia.

A CELTA is not enough and neither is a degree in a subject like Economics or Geography. Check out first any teaching positions advertised online, and see what their response is- if you do not have a related degree.

Good luck

I've never worked for an EF so i can not comment on their quality.

What about the British institute or the Wallstreet Institute?
