Firstly, consider yourself to be extremely lucky that you do not work here. Secondly if you poke around on the Internet you will find pages of postings by numerous teachers that were ripped off by the school. Both Amanda and Joy are professional full-time liars. Anyone who has ever encountered them knows this. The wages that you mentioned for teaching chemistry are extremely low and I would not consider those wages myself.
Only a very few of the teachers at the school are certified. Most of them are lucky to have a job. I know maybe 3 certified teachers on the entire campus. 2 of them are from the US. The housing is sub-standard and dangerous to one's health, the food is dirty and tastes bad, and there is nothing to do anywhere near the school.
There are no placement tests at the school so anyone can get in. Most of the students at the school have mental problems. There is no curriculum of any kind and there never has been. My contract ends in July and I already have a new job waiting. Don't buy into their giant marketing campaigns. It is all window dressing and once you are inside the walls of the correctional-like facility, it is all downhill.
The treatment that you received from Amanda is typical. She lies out of both sides of her mouth. She is quite a talented liar. You would have likely been placed in the middle or the high school and those are some of the worst options at the school. Both of them are managed by Chinese staff without any idea about what they are doing and both of them are extremely racist. They claim to be an international school but there is nothing international about it. Avoid the mental institution at all costs. The school is currently on break for the semester and teachers are due back on 16 Feb. I am not looking forward to it.
You did the right thing. You went, you saw, you left. Since you have a family your decision was even better. There are a few families living at Huijia and they are in bad situations as their kids are usually sick and there is nothing for their children to do. |

I thought that I was replying to a person who was just at Huijia for a chemistry teaching position. I logged in, and tried to reply to their posting. I don't think it is important how it reads, as long as it protects someone from being caught up in a bad working situation in China. If you look in this forum section for China, you'll see the post I thought that I was replying to after I logged in. That foreigner much like many others went to Huijia and got out without a scratch. For many others, myself included, the suffering does not end until July when the contract ends. Avoid Huijia. |

This is the thread: http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=86410
I pressed new topic instead of reply. I assumed I was starting a new topic on the same thread and not a new topic separate from the original posting.
