ok so basically since graduating from university i had been working in terrible call-centre jobs, last march i got an email from a recruiter regarding teaching in china. i sent my cv, recieved a phone call the day after, everything sounded good and i arranged an interview. after the interview my visa was processed (6 month tourist), i booked my flights, and i was in china less than 2 weeks after recieving the initial email.

to cut a long story short, the agency wasn't the best and screwed everyone out of every penny they could. with hindsight i would have been a lot better prepared and done a lot more research, but this was a spur of the moment thing, my job in england was terrible, and i already had a decent amount of money saved up because i had been planning on travelling in asia so i just thought 'why not?' and didn't have a great deal to lose.

despite the agencies best efforts to take every penny i had etc etc, i managed to last my full 6 month contract (something most of my colleagues didn't), and actually really enjoy my time in china.

i have a degree, and i have completed a tefl course since returning to the uk, i am currently working, saving, and i want to go back to china..ideally guangzhou, in feb/march.

the main purpose of this post is i don't want the same thing to happen again! i learnt a lot from my time in china, and obviously have a much greater time to plan and prepare, whilst also knowing what to expect. everyone i met in china told me tthe best thing is to arrange a contract directly with the school, and i was given various websites where you can do this, however when i have looked most of these websites are filled with agencies and its hard to tell who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

im not asking for much, the only request i make is ideally i want to work in guangzhou because i have a lot of friends there, all i want is to know where to find an average paying job in guangzhou, age of student etc does not really concern me. any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated

Search Dave's job ads and other sites online. More than enough employers recruit and hire directly. Most people are not going to just give away their own sources and contact for free around here.

Ask your mates in Guangzhou. Between them they must have contact details of a number of schools there, or can at least get them for you. Once armed you can approach them directly.

I'm with Mr Al on this one.
If the reason for your prefered choice being GZ is because you have friends there, then your friends should be the people to be contacting and they should be able to hook you up with a reliable position.
Good luck with getting something that you will be happy with this time.
