this is my first year teaching in china, going well so far.
my contract, fec and residence permit all expire june 30th.
what normally happens during the summer (assuming moving
to another school with an aug/sep start) regarding rp's and fec's?
does the new school normally have you sign the contract
early enough to allow them to apply for an rp in the new
location so that a new visa will not be required?
do they need to apply for new rp/fec before the old ones expire? |

I don't have any advice for your 'visa gap' next summer
but if you sign another contract in China, you might like to consider getting them to put an unpaid month at the end of it (after your term of employment has finished) to allow for some downtime without concerns such as you are having now. |

If you move to a new school, you should make the arrangements with an eye on that timing. I mean, decide one way or another whether you are indeed moving on. I would make that decision no later than March. If you move on, your new school should coordinate the paperwork between them. During my last move, I had the new RP in my hands by July 10. This is the ideal situation. There were no hard feelings, and my former FAO helped me. She is talented and diligent, and we maintain contact. My point is that the system will work for you, but have an alternate strategy if things go awry. |
