Does anyone know anything about Boda College of Jilin Normal University in Siping City, Jilin province? I am considering a position there as a University Instructor. I searched the forums and didn't find much. Soon I may have an interview with them by Skype and I'm trying to find out as much as possible before then. They said the salary is negotiable.

Siping City looks extremely cold, in my opinion, in the winter, but I haven't read any horror stories about this school yet. However, feel free to give me a wake-up call if this is a terrible place in your opinion.

All comments are welcome.

I can't really say anything about Boda College in particular. But looking on the internet, it looks like a private institution within a public university. These schools are becoming more prevelant throuoghtout China. Prospective students cannot get high enough test scores to enter the real university, so they get admitted to the private one at inflated tuition rates. The private school is financed by private investors so making money takes precedence over a quality education. When the students graduate (which virtually everyone does), the diploma only has the name of the more prestigious institution on it, not the dodgy one. In fact, I taught at a similar college and liked it a lot. I'm just saying that the students probably won't be the creme de la creme.

I interviewed for a position there years ago. I speak some Korean and have good Korean references. Being a Canadian I can't take the cold. They were very nice to me in the interview. The concept of being good students or bad students has nothing to do with your work. This is one of the weaknesses of the Chinese Education system, where you focus your attention on only the good students.
