I've been looking at going to either Japan or Korea, however, a number of job postings have the "and in good health" phrase in them.
I have epilepsy, but as far epileptics go I have it pretty good(seizures controlled with meds, don't require medical treatment for the seizure itself). Is this going to be an issue if I apply somewhere?
For the record, I'm a ways from getting my certs in order, but this is something I'd need to know sooner rather than later. |

If the medication completely prevents seizures, and you are otherwise fit and healthy, then I wouldn't declare to any East Asian employer that you have epilepsy, at least not if actually landing a job rather than being shown little more than token sympathy and appreciation (and perhaps not even that!) for your honesty is a concern. That is, I imagine that the only gig in this neck of the TEFL woods that would be at all sympathetic to employing declared epileptics would be the JET Programme. |

Cross Korea off your list.
A yes answer on the medical questionnaire portion of the visa application will get your visa denied and if you lie and say no the meds will show up in the drug screen that you are required to take (as part of the medical exam) after you get there and you will be sent home (at your expense).
If you want further clarification about jobs in Korea you will have to register on the Korean forums ( http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea ).
I don't know about Japan but they seem to be much more lax in that regard even though the jobs are harder to find.
