|
|
I've read some previous topics on the subject, but they don't really answer all of my questions. I'm not planning on buying until I have my residency, so I'm not going to do that whole thing of putting it in the name of someone else.
Anyway, here are my questions:
- what are the advantages/disadvantages of the nn plates they give to foreigners? Do they make the bike difficult to sell again? I've heard anything but local plates can make local people less willing to buy. Which I can understand. Presumably the cops are more likely to stop a Vietnamese person driving a foreigner bike? So am I going to be limited to selling it to fellow foreigners?
- how much should I expect something like a new Honda Wave to depreciate in 1 or 2 years?
- what's the market like for nearly new bikes? I'm currently under the impression that second hand bikes are a bit overpriced, because most people never bother to sell them.
- And can someone tell me the engine size of the Honda Future, because Honda's website apparently can't. Do they sell the 125cc Wave in this country?
- Anything else you think I should know? |

I realise this isn't one of your questions, but I didn't use the fact that I have a temporary residency card when I bought my bike. I had my work permit and t.r.c ready to hand, but all the local H.E.A.D (Honda VN) outlet wanted was for my work to fill in a Giấy giới thiệu (Introduction Form), confirming I worked there, my position etc.
When we (a member of staff from H.E.A.D and myself) went to the CSGT to register the bike, they took the Giấy giới thiệu and checked my t.r.c along with my passport - didn't even look at the work permit. What proves that I didn't need the t.r.c is that the address on my papers associated with the bike is the school's address, not mine. The shop's reasoning for this was that at that time I was staying in a Nha Nghi and they didn't want to register my details to somewhere like that. I didn't care as you can change these details later and i don't see the address as particularly relevant (every bike paper has my name on it).
I THINK that they checked the t.r.c to ensure that I am legally in the country and PROBABLY to confirm that I'm not on a tourist visa - although I'm not sure.
I don't THINK that I showed them my VN license, although I really can't remember sorry.
The details of how a foreigner can own a bike in VN were written up on the wall of the CSGT registration office, I remember there being 3 ways, although I can't remember the details. I don't think there was an English translation.
Again, note I don't live in HCMC or HN.
Perhaps you could go into your local CSGT office and just see what it says?

I don't have NN plates. I enquired about this when purchasing, stating that all foreign-owned bikes have NN plates - I even quoted the appropriate number for a UK citizen - and they said that in my case I wouldn't have NN plates with little explanation given. I actually kind of wanted NN plates for reasons similar to wanting to have all the papers in my name and buying an entirely new bike.
Apologies I can't answer your specific question.

A friend purchased a Honda Future Neo FI and sold it again after about 9 months I think. They lost about 14 million or so on the original purchase price - a loss of about 45%!

No idea, but my friend kind of struggled to sell theirs.

125cc - It's what I bought. I went for the Fuel Injected (Future X FI) version, really don't know if it was worth the extra 5 million or so, but I love my bike.

Although I just wanted to own my own bike, I was a little wary about the used market. You really would need to find a VNese person that you really trust to do this for you in my opinion. |
