Hello All,
I am an American who looks east Asian wishing to teach in the Middle East. I look genetically Korean. I have had several solid job offers and one scam sent to me from the Middle East and I would like to know if there is severe discrimination against East Asians as far as getting a job or living in Saudi Arabia/Oman/UAE. I have heard that the Saudi people are very conservative and do not treat such foreigners that well but can you give specific examples? I am an experienced science (5 years public in NYC) and ESL teacher (5 years private in Korea) with a Chemistry 7-12 license trying to grab a science or ESL position there.
Best, |

I should say no. If you look NE Asian ( Chinese/Japanese/Korean, etc.) you will be respected. Now, if you look SE Asian or S. Asian, then some people will not respect you. |

It depends a lot as well on your accent. If you are intelligible, then you should have no problem finding jobs everywhere. However, if you have a strong accent, then you stand no chance at teaching in the Middle East.
I know a couple of Asian TEFLERS with US/Euro/Aussie/Kiwi passports who are teaching in the ME. |
