I interviewed with Jesie recently. 16 classes a week, teaching IELTS and EAP to senior one and senior two in a high school.
The program uses 17 different textbooks to teach the two classes.
I found 3 of their current foreign teachers in a nearby restaurant, and 2 of them have been teaching on tourist visas since September. One of them told me that Jesie keeps 'forgetting' to deposit his salary. All three of the ft's told me that they had been given little training to teach the EAP and IELTS from the 17 books, and that they have received very little support from JESIE.
Seems very typical for China, but I decided to pass on the job. |

These people talk big and promise big but so far never materialize on anything.
And they seem to burn though many teachers quickly. |

A recruiter from Jesie called me for a phone interview last week. It seems as though they have lost a number of teachers from last term and are desperate to find teachers for the next term.
The recruiter asked me to start teaching the next term on a tourist visa, and would not give me the phone numbers or email addresses of any current foreign teachers.
I told him I would have to think about it.... |

I was also contacted. They were trying to keep me in the dark.

This seems a little strange given that it's a government college. So, is it the actual JESIE program, which is mostly ACT, or is working for another outfit that leases facilities from the college? I worked out of there (central Nanjing campus) a couple of years ago, and never heard an FT say they had no proper RP.
Other orgs that rent out offices there must get you to sign an "alternative" contract with the real JESIE to obtain your RP. Big Rob the Aussie is a pretty straight-up guy and doesn't usually give ppl the run-around, but if you actually work for the college and give him grief him he'll farm you out to nowheresville (which some ppl actually seemed to prefer).
Certainly I never had an issue with money, holidays or other benefits in my contract. I'd say the salary is a little low for the hours you work, but you can't complain about 2 months' paid vacation, and if housing is included the package is not that bad. I enjoyed my time there, but I don't require much academic support. Most of the other FTs there were great.
Please note that I was not an actual JESIE employee but was contracted through a major Canadian university. As well, things may have changed over the last couple of years. As well, you really don't need and shouldn't use a recruiter to work there. They usually hire through direct contact.

The guy that I interviewed with works directly with JESIE.
It is my understanding that they have about a dozen high schools in which they hire FT's to teach EAP and IELTS to prepare the students to go to colleges abroad.
The current teachers that I talked with told me that they work directly for JESIE, and are part of a program that I believe is called IUP. |

Mine was in two e-mails and a phone call (female). I believe she was a recruiter. |
