Do people get thrown out of the country if they are caught brewing their own beer?

No. They're paraded thru the streets on the shoulders of security forces past exalting crowds... Rolling Eyes

I suspect that in Kuwait, it is a matter of... if you brew it and drink it in your own home... nothing will happen. If you get caught driving drunk or transporting it or selling it... well... Kuwaiti jails are not air conditioned.

I wouldn't have thought any police around the GCC region would be so arrogant as to let themselves into the home of a westerner/teacher, would they? That's an honest question, by the way, and not a statement.

Personally I think if you're caught selling booze you should be locked up for several months, then thrown out of the country. That includes the illicit bars in ******** (booze is not a consumer product, it is the elixir or life).

Not that this has ANY relevance to me as *ahem* I never have touched a drop.

Welll... if your local police at home thought that you were brewing meth, would they be so arrogant to let themselves into your home? You could say that by local laws that is equivalent. But, as I said, what you do in the privacy of your own home is pretty much ignored in both countries until you take the product out and market it to the public.

Based on my one year in Kuwait, it seemed that every dinner party I attended was awash in booze... not home brew, but the usual stuff. Since I don't drink, I never bothered to ask how they brought it in... Even though Kuwait was supposed to be dry like Saudi, I never really saw any evidence that it was. The booze level was the same as in Oman and the UAE where you can buy it in the local government liquor stores. Nor did I ever hear people talking about home brew.

Thanks for replying VS. As you can guess, I like the occasional drink ... and although the "usual stuff" is available I'd like to try my hand at brewing my own ... it's something I've always wanted to do Smile
