I really want to go to thailand to experience life, and want to stay for at least a year. I have done lots of language exchange with koreans, and some tutoring "in the US and korea". I don't have a degree and don't want to break any thai laws. I will be finishing Yonsei's Korean Language program in march and will have a certificate of fluency in korean. I don't know if being an english/korean speaker would get me into any valuable position but I'm hoping.
I was thinking maybe bar tending or something similar. does anyone have any suggestions? and PLEASE don't say get a degree and come back, I will probably work on my online degree while i'm there. thank you guys for any advice you can give me!!!!!!!!! |

Truth be told = you won't get a legal job (with "B" visa and work permit) and you won't get a 1 year visa of any flavor.
Your best option is to get a double entry tourist visa (60 days + 30 day extension) while you are in Korea. After you have been here for your 90 days you then do a border run and repeat giving you a total of 6 months in the country.
You MAY be able to repeat the process to give you a combined year but legal employment is not on the table for you (no teaching cert (CELTA) and no degree).
MOD EDIT

Bartending is on the (long) list of occupations which are restricted to Thai nationals only. Even foreign business owners are prohibited from serving behind their own bar, and there have definitely been arrests in places like Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya - where the police and labour department are particularly on the lookout for this kind of transgression. Even washing a glass or serving a drink to friends can be considered as work, and thus illegal. And there are always jealous competitors (Thai and expat) just waiting for the opportunity to dob you in. You might have a better chance of flying under the radar away from the main cities and tourist areas, but personally I wouldn't want to take the risk. Thais are notorious scoff-laws, but this is not always to the farang's ultimate advantage. MOD EDIT |

2 questions:
on a double entry visa do I have to leave in the middle and re-enter to get the extra 30 days?
MOD EDIT would I be permanently banned from going back to thailand? |
