May I know from colleagues if any of you have receieved job offer to teach English in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain as advertised? They keep advertising the job to date but I had an interview with a lady in london 3 weeks ago which went well and she promised to contact me. I have still not heard from her after email and phone reminders. Can it be that they are waiting for native speakers and will only consider non natives like me if the natives do not turn up? Does UAE welcome qualified black African English teachers?

usually, they will hold out until they can fill the posititons with native speakers. even the iat family, of which kaplan is a memeber and which is the most open to hiring non-native speakers, has that preference. they will wait until the very end, so just wait as long as you can.

well this is a loaded question. in general yes, but there are specific organizations that are known to have ethnic preferences. yes, even those organizations have even hired a few "undesirables", but nonetheless, many well qualified AND highly recommended people have been overlooked in favor of other candidates who were qualified on paper but when it came to recommendations .... well, let's just say that in the trenches, they proved to be far below standard.
some people will disagree and that is fine but please let's not hijack the thread like we did the "hct fujairah" thread. if you have a personal comment, just pm me because i have not attacked anyone personally with my comments.

| I don't seem to recall anybody attacking you personally on the HCT Fujeirah thread. And I don't think newbies on this forum should come on so strong all over the threads. Of course they have the right to, but it's somehow distasteful to me. Most people sort of ease in. Maybe I'm just an old fogey. |

| Elmoro is probably referring to one of my comments... While I'm a newbie at posting I've been reading the blog for almost 3 years. I thought "THE HORROR! THE HORROR!" was pretty humorous in an over-the-top sort of way. This country has many positives and negatives (as does any country). I simply can't agree with an attitude that everything is "THE HORROR!" |

actually, i wasn't referring to anyone. i was only making a comment towards those who might find my post offensive, one sided, or whatever else we can imagine. the hijacking of the hct in fujairah referred to the fact that we went from advising someone about working and living in fujairah to the "extra curricular activities" of the indigenous folks, and eventually the thread was locked. i'm a thick-skinned lad, so don't fret none 
and yes gus, there are some positives about the place. heck, if nothing else, the pay is tax free  just kidding! um, no i ain't!

| Hi Mark, I waited for over 6 weeks and finally got a first interview after sending emails to 3 people asking about the status of my application. I heard back after a few days and now have a second interview. I think there is a third too so it's a long process. All I can suggest is to phone and send another email... Good luck! |

Thanks for a clue. My first interview was a bit technical despite a statement in the invitation letter that it was meant to be an initial interview to discuss the role.
Maybe, can I say the interviewer found me OK and will not need to conduct a second interview?
Can you help me with the differences in the two interviews? Was the second one more technical than the first and was the first one about ordinary chat?

I logged on to post this URL myself, but you beat me to it.
This is a huge red flag regarding Kaplan. Anyone who is offered a job by them ought to be very, very careful. For one thing, the salaries they offered seem to good to be true. |

| Put "Kaplan scam" in Google, and you'll get a lot more red flags. |
