Try this quiz. I got 16/20. I have to say that this profession helped a lot in being able to answer some of the questions.

Then again I'm not American

Maybe I should apply for 'the weakest link

19 out of 20 - and here's my reward:

"You have an impressive understanding of the world FOR AN AMERICAN (emphasis added). It is likely you feel intellectually isolated in your home country, (no comma required) and often have to hide your opinions from others. Deep down, you realize that your country is the single biggest threat to world peace in modern times, but you have not yet summoned up the courage to emigrate."

Gee, thanks a lot.

Regards,
John

I got a sad little 17/20 because I dont know where Jesus was crucified and I miscalculated the dead at Hiroshima and something else... forget what. Didnt seem hugely relevant to the functioning of the universe...Ah, yes, it was the law about time and space etc.

Did you look at the 'results'? Ave for Americans: 12.6, for Non-Am: 13.3
Statistics are a b*tch to understand.
You could easily argue that the reason for the discrepancy can be found in the fact that Net access is much more widely available to Americans than to non-Americans. This idea would be supported by the fact that there are twice as many Americans responding as non-Americans. It's a pile of doo-doo anyway because the test is not only in English, but also biased towards Anglophone culture...
But I do like quizzes Smile

Dear waxwing,
Not only that, but YOU get to say whether you're American or Non-American. Considering how poorly regarded the USA is today (including, I'd say, by the designer of this site), can't you just picture lots of Non-Americans checking the "American box" and then answering as many wrong as they can?
OK - call me paranoid. But I'll bet it's been done.
Regards,
John

P.S. Hmmm - which gives ME an idea - should I check the "Non-American" box and give all incorrect answers? If I did that, say, ten times, bet I'd alter the statistics somewhat.

How smart am I? I cant get the link, so i did a different test..

IQ 119. That's in the 88th percentile; About 1 in 10 people, or slightly above average.

However, my EQ, or Emotional Intelligence, is..... ZILCH. Nada. Nowhere. Not happening. Ask my ex!

Quote:
Generally, one's mental age stops rising rapidly when one reaches the latter teens--e. g., 16. Consequently, on some IQ tests, "16" was taken as the chronological-age divisor in an IQ calculation for adults. The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale is calibrated for all ages up to 70, with chronological-age divisors appropriate to every age 70 or below.
The average IQ is, by definition, 100. To get an idea what this means, someone with an IQ of 80 or below is considered to be marginally able to cope with the adult world. People with IQ's of 80 or below typically work as unskilled laborers such as lawn maintenance and trash pickup. They generally need help from friends or family to manage life's complications. About 10% of the population has an IQ of 80 or below.
People with IQ's of 80-90 are a little on the slow side but may be found in fast-food restaurants, day-care centers, etc. They may also be found in unskilled jobs. About 16% of the population has IQ's in this range.
People with IQ's of 90-110 generally occupy semi-skilled positions, including typists, receptionists, assembly line workers, and checkout clerks. They are able to keep up with the world, and comprise about 46% of the public.
People with IQ's in the 110 to 120 range fill the skilled trades and include some tool and die makers, teachers, and Ph. D.'s among their ranks. They also make up 16% of the population.
People with IQ's of 120 and above tend to staff the professions as doctors, dentists, lawyers, teachers, and college professors. They fall in the upper 10% of the population.

The average IQ of all college professors is 130, which lies within the upper 3% of the general public.

I pulled 19/20, missing only the Beatles question. Nice to be able to use some of the chemistry and math I took as an undergrad years ago.

I suspect that kind of data manipulation in teh quantities required to have an effect might show up on that bar chart that accompanies those statistics. I think its fair to say if it is going on, it isn't enough to swing teh results, or else it is being deliberately filtered out somehow.

16/20
