Hello all,
New to the forum and the ESL world. Was wondering what the application and resignation process in Turkey is like? Do you have to follow the 2 week rule to resign or is it quite informal? Do they pay you upon leaving? Is it best to work under contract? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Application process: Depends on the school you are applying to. The first place I worked at I found over the internet, sent my CV, came over and started work. This was without a work permit, so the process is very simple. I paid for my own residence permit.

The second place I worked at, I found when I was in Turkey, just walked in, handed my CV in, chatted a bit, came back and did a demo lesson in front of one of the regular classes and the manager, and that was it. They took care of all the paperwork, and paid for my work permit.

Resignation: The first place, because I was working illegally, I just resigned on the spot and walked out.

The second place required a month's notice, but if you broke the contract you had to pay back certain costs, such as residence/work permit costs.

The only solid rule is that there are no rules!
