Hello. First of all I will apologise because the search function didn't return any results for this query, even though I'm sure it's quite a popular topic.
I'm moving to Japan in a couple of weeks time and I would like to send some money over, ahead of our departure. I have a bank account in Japan, and some Japanese family who would be there to receive a money order if necessary. Can anyone recommend the most economic and/or (time) efficient way to make a transfer of about 40 - 50 man yen? Would it be cheaper to wire it into my account over there or is there another way of doing it?
Thank you to anybody who has advice to offer.
Cheers |

I use a Nationwide FlexAccount account in the UK, which has free withdrawals at all 7/11 ATM's here in Japan (maybe other places too, but I've only tried a few). Whenever my parents or family want to give me some money, they just deposit it into my UK Nationwide account and then I can withdraw it over here
I'm not quite sure what exchange rates they use but it's always seemed pretty good to me, no withdrawal, load or transaction fees either. |
