Hello!
I'm an Indian with a degree in Mass Media and 4 years' experience as a journalist and keen interest in ESL. I intend doing CELTA soon but my posts on this forum show I'm at a disadvantage being a non-native speaker with no teaching experience and a non-related degree. I know my accent matters, and while I work on that, will getting an an MA in Eng Lit make a considerable difference? Or should I consider an education-related course?

As a non-native with an Indian passport, get an education related post grad course (PCGE, B.Ed, perhaps an MATESOL, etc). It will open more doors for you and at least give you a chance abroad.

Otherwise, your chances quickly drop to "0" with the triple strike of an Indian passport (a big issue for many countries), non education related degree (rules out those few countries who do allow Indian teachers) and no experience (pretty much rules out language academies (legally hired or under the table).
