I have been teaching in Medan (no degree no probs)
BUT I am interested in teaching in a local (SMA) school.
The school is keen but have got little idea about getting me a kitas.
Is it possible?
Is there anyone out there doing this?
Has anybody heard it happening?

How would a local SMA government school be able to afford to hire an expat teacher? A few such schools in Jakarta [the wealthier ones-usually Catholic] have an expat for one or two days a week supplied by an agency....but to hire somebody directly?!!

If you haven't got a degree, you'll probably need a fixer to get your KITAS, but if the school hasn't got a clue, sounds like you're out of luck. If it's a government school, I can't see how you will get anywhere near a decent salary either.

My advice would be to find a private or natplus school that already employs a foreigner. I'm working in Palembang in a private schoolSMP, not SMAand that's how I got my job. The school is a private, so the pay is much, much higher and they were already employing a foreigner, which made the visa process easy as pie. I've got a degree, certs and all that, but it can still be done. There are plenty working here that don't have them. Good luck.

It isn't relevent here if you are interested in money or not-you fail to understand that it 'costs' a school quite a bit of money to hire a bule. How would a local SMA school be able to do this? Even if they were paying you say, a local teacher salary?
