|
|
I have been teaching elementary students for the past 7 years, 5 of those years I have taught ESL students at international schools. I have also taught 2 years as an adjunct English teacher at a community college internationally. I have a master's degree in elementary education and I was thinking about getting a CELTA to broaden my options. I want to teach ESL to adults next year, preferably in South or Central America. Could I just get an online TEFL certificate since I have years of experience working with ESL students in the classroom? |

Masters degree, teaching certification and real (related) classroom experience = you do NOT need a TESOL cert. (of any flavor) to get a job anywhere.
This is doubly true if you are a "native speaker" from the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia or NZ.

I agree that you don't need a certificate or the CELTA, but then again the CELTA is known and SEEMS to carry some weight. But I believe it's a little pricey...2,000 dollars or more depending on the location. |

You're plenty qualified for these regions...skip the CELTA. |

The only place I know of that it is absolutely required is Indonesia. Doesn't matter what else you have (or don't have). |

Thank you for replying to my post. I was actually hoping that I wouldn't really need to go for another certification. Also thanks for the information about Indonesia, now I know what I'll need if I want a job there. |
