So I want to get my CELTA this summer and I'm thinking about Thailand. However, I'm in the Russian Far East now and I really don't want to return to the US for a variety of reasons. Moscow is a long way away, too.
From the school's website and what I can learn, it looks like I will need a 60 day tourist visa for the course (plus I would like to travel for a week or two anyway). This must be obtained at an embassy, ideally in my home country.
Does anyone have any experience getting a Thai visa (ideally one for a US citizen) from embassies in Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo (don't ask), or anywhere in SEA? My travel plans are flexible but I'm worried it won't work out. Is this even possible? |

You can get the 60 day tourist visa from any Thai embassy or consulate.
They tend to be very accommodating when handing out tourist visas.
You do not need to fly home. Many people to border runs to Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia to get them as needed.
I think they are still free as well.

Thanks tttom! Do you have any idea w/r/t the timeframe for getting a visa? I assume it won't be any longer than a couple of weeks. |

Often overnight for a tourist visa. Sometimes, same day. Occasionally 2-4 days.

| Excellent. This is very relieving, thanks for the information. Still adjusting to the stress from user-unfriendly websites that are everywhere outside of the US and the lack of stress from when the answer is just what I wanted to hear! |
