A school rep said that my salary increase would be tied to student evaluations. It sounds like a very bad idea. It's giving the students a tool they might use to intimidate or manipulate an FT.
"Naughty" students are never going to like an FT who requires courtesy to other students, attendance, completion of assignments, etc.
It also provides a convenient way for admin to cap my salary.
I see nothing good in this type of set up.
Anyone have experience with this type of arrangement? |

I can only offer a few suggestions:
1) in the run up to the evaluations teach them something that they will really enjoy and have loads of fun doing, for example foreign card games.
2) Point out to your superiors that since your salary is in the spot light you will want copies of all the evaluations. Make sure that your students know about this.
3) Ask for some of the Chinese English teachers to also evaluate your lessons.
hope it helps |

| This is done at a Korean chain which has sacked all previous teachers. My friend's at a Seoul branch with 25 non-Koreans and is now most senior after being there since 6/02 |
