Im in a small town working for a medium sized school I want to leave because I work all weekend. How angry are my school llikely to be if I leave for a public school job? I wont be first to do so recently....Im worried there take a keep my last months salary in addition to money I have to pay as a result of breaking the contract.
I dont think I can conceal the fact that Im moving to a public school I have to tell them because of the visa situation

If it's stated in your contract that you have to work the whole weekend and you signed the damned thing, why would you imagine that they would be more than a little peeved because you now want to leave?
They have every right to apply penalty clauses in this kind of circumstance. You should have considered this before accepting the job. It doesn't sound like something that they have just dropped on you without warning or explanation. |

I will echo the previous post. Leaving your job because "the grass is greener" leaves a burden upon your school and the colleagues you leave behind. Fine, that really is not your problem but the whole point of a penalty clause is to prevent that burden form occurring in the first place. Congratulations, you've just found out what that clause is for! How does it feel to want?
Where I work, the school is usually very reluctant to take on teachers when they have not completed a contract with another school purely and simply because the number of 'bad' schools are nowhere near as many as ESL forums might have you believe and leaving on the grounds of getting your Saturday night out back is not likely to impress your next employer but then I am guessing that's not something you'd openly admit to at interview.
I suggest you knuckle down, bite the bullet in this big scary world of being responsible and carry on pretending to be a teacher where you are. |

I guess it was someone else's turn. I fell hook line and sinker to the last troll.
"hiddenNinja" is redundant, unless you're a bad ninja.
