This might be addressed elsewhere on the forums, but the search function failed to turn up anything. Does anyone know if it is legal for an American to enter Russia on a one-way flight? |

I do not see why not, it is a common myth that you need a return ticket to get your visa, this is not true (at least not for 3-month visas).
I found getting two-way to be way more convenient though. It will cost a little more in the end, potentially. But, theoretically if I figure out on February 10th that I need to return February 11th, I can do so with just a change-ticket fee of $300. Buying a one-way, one-day in advance has to be ridiculous . One-day may be unrealistic... but... |

It's cheaper to fly on a return ticket. If you get a ticket that's valid for a year - you could change the date on the ticket at anytime (It'll cost you a small levy but not an arm and a leg). As opposed to buying 2 one way tickets that'll cost significantly more.
You're bound to return home within a year, so you could use that to go home and visit. And if things go pear shaped in Russia, you have already paid for you return, just a quick change on you're on your way home. (And you should always have enough money for an immediate return option, anything could go wrong) |

The Russians don't care if you have a one-way flight, as long as you have a visa coming in. Getting out of Russia before it expires, or getting it extended, is on you. |

Thanks again to everyone for the responses. Tickets have been purchased. Now back to selling things that aren't coming with me to Moscow. |
