So I'm ready for a career change. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration and a Juris Doctor. A few years of good work experience in the legal field, but my only teaching experience is limited to offering private Japanese instruction for 2 semesters. I have lived in Japan and now I'm ready to try something else.
So here it is, what should I do?
Should I just apply to the CELTA ILA course in HCMC and just show up hoping to get a job shortly thereafter? Is this a terribly stupid option? Is there a much more obvious route I should take?
Any help is appreciated! |

Take a CELTA, it is offered at both ILA and Apollo in HCMC and Language Link in Hanoi.
There are other ELT courses you can take and some good debate already on this forum related to the merits of the CELTA Vs other courses. The fact that most higher end institutions insist on this cert is indicative of its standing in the industry. |

Thanks man. Sounds like I should just show up, take CELTA, then look for jobs.
If I work hard and really try to apply myself in the CELTA class, is there a good likelihood that I'll look for a job for a month but still come up empty and end up having to fly back to the states?
Or does taking the ILA CELTA + working really hard generally equate to a decent job in some capacity?
I guess I just want to be sure I'm not running off on some fool's errand.
Thanks for the help, this would be the first time I'm just doing something like this. |

After Tet, Chinese new year, early feb 2011, is peak season for finding work in Vietnam. Many schools hire in the months March and April and then again in July (for summer school).
Finish the Celta, be presentable and keen and you will pick up work in a few weeks. |
