I'm moving to china in a few weeks to teach english and I will have to get a physical. What exactly are they looking for and what could prevent you from teaching?
I'm in good health but the only problem I have is my blood pressure is slightly high and I have a fast heart rate (the doctors can't figure out why it's fast, it might just be from being nervous at the doctors).
Would the slightly high BP and fast heart rate prevent me from passing the physical ? |

I supposedly have high blood pressure (smoking) and a fatty liver (drinking) and bad ears/hearing. I passed the test.
If you have AIDS then they will send you home.
This could be on the "Strangest Thing I've Seen in China" topic - I remember when the nurse looked into my ears she saw the tubes that have been there for awhile and was amazed. The next thing you know, about 5 or 6 people and a Doctor were looking in my ears. |

Marijuana use can increase blood pressure and heart rate. (referring to the OP's thread about drug tests) |

Also understand that every city is different when it comes to the test. I had the test in Wuxi and in Suzhou - about 20 miles apart these cities are - and the tests were similar but one city had a larger battery of tests. Including urinalyses and other tests done in my city but not the other - both are government run centers.
Also the cost is very different in the two centers. |

Yup my doctor mentioned the same thing. Although most likely it's due to me smoking cigs
Luckily the doctor said it's not too bad and if I stopped smoking cigs and cut back on my morning coffee my blood pressure/heart rate would probably go back to being normal. |

Eclipse 12... I hope you're taking meds for the high blood pressure. Even a slight elevation can be significant and should be treated aggressively... in my opinion. Don't want one of those nasty strokes, especially not in China for goodness sake.
