I'm looking for a bit of advice....
I've just completed my CELTA and want to go to Barcelona to work from the summer onwards. I'm going on holiday to Spain the first 2 weeks in June and was hoping to stay over there and start work instead of coming back. Does anyone know of any summer camps that I could apply to? And then, also, how to get a job for September secured before going there? I've heard stories of people just packing up and going there to look for work but I would prefer to have a job secured before I leave if poss. Also, interested to know from anyone who has moved to Barcelona about start up costs, accomodation, etc.
Any help would be appreciated as I think I've gone through almost every website there is looking for advice on this and not got very far!! |

You haven't got far because it's really rare to line up a job in advance. Unelss you've got some kind of specialist qualifications, this is just a job market that is pretty full of teachers, and reputable employers have no need to take a chance on someone sight-unseen.
So far as summer work, there is some out there, but not tonnes, and teachers who have completed a contract Sept-June will be first in line for what's going. You may find something for June, but I wouldn't totally bank on it.
Good luck! |

I agree. By far the best way to get a job is to actually be here. |

Your best bet would be to try and find work on a summer camp in the UK.
There are more of them so it increases your chances, they pay more so you can arrive here with a nicer safety cushion and because you will then be leaving the UK, if you fill in the appropriate form (P85) you will be able to claim back the tax you paid.
When you finish on the summer camp come back to Spain for the beginning of September when the job market starts again and take youself round the schools looking for work. |
