My wife and I are looking to take up work in China - we have a masters/diploma/TESOL certs between us. We also have a 3 year old daughter (who happens to be adopted from Guandong province - but speaks english as first language) does anyone know if there are teaching positions that come with kindergarten access for teachers children? would love some help in this area as we don't know the ropes. Also is it true that on a basic wage of say, 2 x 6000 rmb per month, we could afford a cleaner - thats what we were told at the TESOL school we attended or was that hype? and NO we don't mind cleaning, but if we can fill our time teaching, who wouldnt prefer that? thanks for your help. |

I can't answer your question except to say yes, I have heard of schools allowing the foreign teachers' kids to attend for free. Some schools are better equipped than others to accommodate foreign students.
As for a maid, yes, I think so. You could probably find someone to provide child care, clean and cook for less than 2,000 RMB/month. (Probably not live-in, as they like to go home to their own families.) |

If it's only a cleaner you are looking for, they can come much cheaper, depending on your requirements.
I have a cleaner, who does only that, and some ironing. No cooking, shopping, or clothes washing etc. She works two mornings each week, three hours each morning, RMB20/hour. So the total cost is RMB120/week.
Obviously it will all depend on what you want her to do, and for how long. Also where you live. I believe that cleaners in Shanghai are more expensive than here in Beijing, for example. |

Best way is by word-of-mouth recommendation. I've had mine for 4 years now, and never a problem. |
