I had an interview with a school (which he set up) and was told I had the job near the end of last month. He told me that they would start processing the visa which takes 35-40 days, which is fine.
Recently though I've emailed him 3 times about an update which he didn't respond to. I finally caught him on Skype and asked him for an update. He assured my that I had a job and told me he would check for a status update and get back to me. This was 4 days ago and he didn't give me the update.
It will have been 30 days at the beginning of next week.
Am I stressing out too much? |

Did he give you details of the school?
He's hawking you around my friend. That would be my take. |

Yeah I had an interview with one of the directors of the school. It's for a public school and after the interview he (the Chinese director) told me I had the job. Then after the interview the recruiter sent me all the paperwork to sign and asked for copies of all of my documents, including the stamped health check |

Get it now.
Probably OK but see if you can scare up an alternative gig. If in a week this falls flat, then is not the time to restart your search. Do it now! |

I don't think he's yanking your chain. This is the way that China works: yes or no. You're in or you're out. The Chinese can't get their heads wrapped around the way in which the west does things.
I've gone through recruiters and I've gone (supposedly) directly through the FAO of the school. This is typical behavior. If you don't trust them, get something else going. Recruiters and schools time everything to buy the most time accorded them by the visa to get you in and processed. Prospective FTs can't understand why they can't come four months early. There's a time limit on the visa. I think that the visas have a thirty day fuse after which they are no longer valid. (I can't remember if it's thirty days or ninety days. I've seen both. I'd look but my passport is locked up). |

You knew in advance it would be 35-40 days. It is not even 30 days yet. Why are you harking on something you already knew well in advance about and accepted the conditions (of)? |

The idiom is "harping on". |
