For the many Canadians on these forums, a hot news flash:

Speaking for myself, this Canadian can't afford a junket to Buffalo, New York, let alone a house on Turks & Caicos. I don't even know where they are! But recently I saw a rather posh woman business journalist (demure, well-dressed, soft-spoken) interview the leader of T and C on television. He gave an eager pitch in support of the Canadian plan. It sounds as if the Brits are distracted. Maybe they let the colonial budget shrink or something.

The idea was first floated about 20 years ago, but died a quiet death due to the fact that the T/C economy was not doing well at the time and it was thought it would be a financial drain on Canada. Now that T/C is doing swimmingly, it is being rethought.

My opinion? why not?
