I have recently applied to AEON, and have been scheduled for the interview. I was reading the contract stipulations and benefits, and at the bottom it said:
"After an applicant accepts a position, a non-refundable processing fee of $220 USD, $250 CAD, $260 AUD, 140 GBP is required to cover part of the cost incurred."
Now, the last job I had in Japan did not require you to pay for the cost of hiring you/getting your visa. Is this a new thing? |

When you get to Japan, they give you a one-time stipend of 22,000 yen.

I'd be surprised that it would be non-refundable. If memory serves, they want that payment just to guarantee that a person will actually show up after AEON goes through the paperwork to get the person a visa.

It's basically non-refundable until you finish your training. You pay the amount when you accept the position (whichever currency that applies to you) and then once in Japan on the last day of your training they hand out envelopes with the exact amount you paid exchanged into yen (for example, I was Canadian so my amount differed slightly from the Americans due to the current exchange rate differences). The non-refundable part only applies before you actually leave. It's essentially to stop you from taking a position, therefore blocking other people from taking it, and then backing out before your flight date.

Yep I got mine back in full during training - it stopped me spending it before I left and I used it for training fun, I think I still have a little left so it's gone towards apartment things. Think of it as savings rather than a fee.
