Hi,

If we are talking of defending Americans
and American values against the Barbarians:
what better way to make a stand with MoveOn
against Torture? Question

Responding to Torture Shocked
Reports and photographs of Iraqi prisoners being tortured and abused by U.S. and British troops have shocked the world. They are also provoking a global backlash against the U.S., at the very moment when we most need the world's help to manage the mess in Iraq. We believe:

"To restore our good name, America must support an
immediate, independent, impartial and public investigation
into all allegations of torture in Iraq. The investigation
must include representatives from Arab nations."

Join this call by sending an email with this message to the President and to your representatives in Congress. Please enter your name, email address, zip code, and personal comment below. We'll deliver these messages to the White House, your member of Congress, and other political leaders.

A compiled petition with your individual comment will be presented to the White House and to key leaders in Congress.

The torture photos are appalling but it is too bad that MoveOn's biggest concern is for the reputation of America. I think that the issue here is not our reputation but the fact that human beings have been so terribly abused.

In any event, Anne ... I agree that folks (esp. Americans) need to make more of an issue of the White House's policies on the treatment of prisoners.
